How to Care for Your Bag and Make It Last

A well-made bag can last a decade with the right care. It can also look tired in six months without it. The difference is mostly habit: small, consistent actions that take less time than you think.

Storage
When your bag is not in use, stuff it loosely with tissue paper or a soft cloth to help it keep its shape. Do not store it under other bags or in a tight space where the sides can get pressed in permanently.
If it came with a dust bag, use it. If not, a clean pillowcase does the same job. Leather needs to breathe, so avoid sealed plastic storage for anything longer than a few days.
Cleaning leather
For day-to-day maintenance, wipe down leather bags with a dry or very slightly damp cloth. Do not soak the leather and do not use harsh soaps or alcohol-based wipes.
For deeper cleaning, a dedicated leather cleaner applied with a soft cloth is the right tool. Work in small sections and let it dry naturally. Once dry, follow with a leather conditioner to keep the material supple and prevent cracking.
Aim to condition your bag once every three to four months, more often if you live in a very dry climate or carry it daily.
Cleaning fabric and canvas

Protecting against the elements
A leather protector spray, applied before first use and refreshed a few times a year, creates a barrier against water and light stains. It is one of the best investments you can make in a bag you love.
If your bag gets caught in rain, do not panic. Blot, do not rub. Let it dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Once dry, condition the leather as usual.
Hardware and clasps
